This is, I hope, self-explanatory. When correcting my son, I often hear the voices of my parents when I sit back and reflect on what I tell him. And those lessons, set in my brain so long ago, are still very wise words to live by. The best lessons we learn will outlive those who taught them. They will be between my ears until I ride off into my sunset.

Misbehaved my first week of school
Hard for a young boy to follow the rules
My folks gave advice so long ago
Still hear two voices wherever I roam
They say, "Son,
Every day life presents a new test
Don't be content unless you do your best
Earn respect, look people in their eyes
Go through life with your head held high"
I tried to always follow those words
I learned from the best while growing up
I'm not perfect but I still try
Good advice to follow throughout life
I work hard nearly everyday
Continue to earn an honest pay
As two voices echo in my mind
Words of advice that survive through time
They say,
"Every day life presents a new test
Don't be content unless you do your best
Earn respect, look people in their eyes
Go through life with your head held high"
Now my turn to teach my lessons of life
To raise my kid correctly with my wife
I learned what to say to teach my son
From those two voices full of advice
The day will come when he must part
We don't worry, he's quite smart
While he's alive he will never forget
Two voices follow him to his sunset
They say, "Son,
"Every day life presents a new test
Don't be content unless you do your best
Earn respect, look people in their eyes
Go through life with your head held high"
As long as I'm here I can never forget
Two voices follow me to my sunset
