This song has gone through a few different versions. Sometimes I will have an idea and spend several nights working with a concept. Well, what ended up being this song actually went through many different concepts. I wanted to focus on how the sun comes up after a bit of suffering. Sort of, 'there is always light at the end of the tunnel' idea. I initially had many different life experiences written down, from the time I was young through growing up and adult life. With all these situations, I feel I became stronger with each unpleasant encounter. I finally settled on showing a progression of growing wiser with life. I am at the point now, that, in many cases of undesirable situations, I am nearly numb to any pain--sort of, what is is what is, just deal with it and go on. The addition of my grandmother's last days was included because it always effected me. I remember my dad and I leaving her house one day when she was really going downhill. She was sitting in her favorite chair as we left and I had the idea that would be the last time I saw her. I honestly feel, she knew that that was the last time she would see us on this mortal world. After the news of her passing, I couldn't get my mind off of thinking how brave she was knowing she wasn't going to see her son or grandson anymore on our last visit. I know where she is now "the sun shines all the time". I wrote the line in the chorus "pain is like rain", and thought that that was kind of catchy, so I ran with that. I compared pain to miserable rain falling on life's experiences. But, sooner or later, "there's a changin' of the wind" and the rain stops to display blue skies. I eventually changed the name from 'the sun will shine again" to what you see below.

He'd been my shadow since I was born
He fetched his last ball early one morn
The rain masked the tears falling down my face
As they told me he was in a better place
Pain is like rain that chills to the bone
Pain prepares us for what’s around the bend
We know soon there’ll be a changin’ of the wind
When the rain ends the sun will shine again
We watched the sunset then she said goodbye
The storm clouds then filled the dark evening sky
I didn’t think my heart would mend
Took so long for the pouring rain to end
Pain is like rain that chills to the bone
Pain prepares us for what’s around the bend
We know soon there’ll be a changin’ of the wind
When the rain ends the sun will shine again
I recall I saw her the last time
I think about how she was so brave
Her job on Earth was done, now she fell ill
The last moments with her felt so surreal
In her long life she’d seen her share of rain,
She was prepared for this deepest of pain
The rain was pouring but soon stopped on a dime
Where she is now, the sun shines all the time
Pain is like rain that chills to the bone
Pain prepares us for what’s around the bend
We know soon there’ll be a changin’ of the wind
When the rain ends the sun will shine again
